Absence Management |
|
Employee sickness absence costs the UK economy over £12 billion each year which equates to an annual direct cost to employers of £495 per employee. Related to this, research has shown that. the longer an employee is absent from work the lower the probability of a return to work. Belief in their own dysfunction is a significant factor in duration of absence and tends to worsen over time. A core function of an occupational health service is to provide advice to management regarding their employees’ fitness for work, whether due to sickness absence, performance concerns or some other reason. Whilst routine advice is useful, where the aim is to achieve a significant reduction in medical practitioner visits and shorter work absences, experience has shown us that early intervention is essential To achieve this, Duradiamond Healthcare uses Occupational Health Advisers as a central referral point and our Advisers work closely with Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Counsellors and, if necessary, other specialists to actively intervene to resolve an absence. We advocate starting intervention as soon as possible, either very early in an absence or ideally pre absence. This co-ordinated approach and focus on vocational rehabilitation has produced startling results. With support from employers and the workforce we have improved sickness absence statistics by up to 40%. This has provided an excellent return on investment for client companies and employee satisfaction has also improved. At Duradiamond Healthcare, we are confident that significant benefits in Absence Management can also be gained by:
