Ergonomic Vehicle Assessments

Why are ergonomic vehicle assessments important?

Our Ergonomic Vehicle Assessments are targeted at those employees who spend a large proportion of their working day in a car or other works vehicle. Prolonged sitting in either an incorrectly adjusted seat or with poor posture, or if work habits are sub-optimal, can lead to the development of driver discomfort, or cause underlying musculoskeletal symptoms to be aggravated, particularly if the vehicle is a poor fit to the individual’s anthropometric (body) measurements.

Our comprehensive Ergonomic Vehicle Assessments are particularly useful for drivers of different physical statures who may be sharing their vehicles with other drivers, and consider factors such as employee anthropometric versus vehicle measurements, posture and work tasks. Because our assessors are physiotherapists, who are the experts in musculoskeletal health, our assessment also considers the employees general health, musculoskeletal health and fitness as part of the assessment and will take all these factors into consideration when delivering their advice to the client.

Solutions need not be expensive; often postural advice or referral to a physiotherapist can offer a low cost but effective solution

What does the assessment involve?

All vehicle assessments are carried out by one of our expert clinicians and will help identify any risk factors either with the individual or the vehicle which may be contributing to musculoskeletal symptoms. A full assessment will include:

  • Full assessment of seated posture in vehicle
  • Any necessary adjustments made immediately where appropriate and full demonstration to the employee of how to make appropriate adjustments
  • Advice on how to reduce any symptoms
  • Provision of any back supports if necessary
  • A full report with findings and recommendations
  • A full assessment will generally last between 60-90 minutes
