What is an ergonomic workstation assessment?

A more detailed workstation assessment may be required if an individual has had a DSE assessment and continues to experience on-going musculoskeletal assessments. Our ergonomic workstation assessments aim to identify and analyse any risk factors which may be causing current or future health problems, or may be reducing work performance. All too often the individual has adapted their posture to suit the workstation rather than the workstation being adjusted to suit the individual.

Our assessors have specialist knowledge of ergonomics and provide a detailed and in-depth evaluation over and above that of a DSE assessment to address musculoskeletal problems.

What does the assessment involve?

  • A detailed history of symptoms and work organisation to enable our assessors to identify any possible risk factors
  • Identification of any perceived work stresses such as work pressure/demands
  • If appropriate, a brief musculoskeletal assessment of the individual
  • Anthropometric measurements of the employee to match suitable chairs and equipment to that individual
  • Full analysis of the employee’s workstation and tasks
  • Any appropriate adjustments that can be made during the assessment
  • We strongly believe that education and self-management is an integral part of prevention of future problems, and therefore we will fully brief the employee on how to make any adjustments themselves. Appropriate exercises and advice, such as task rotation and micr-breaks will also be discussed with the employee.
  • We will always advise the employee on optimal posture and workstation arrangement Generally our assessments will take approximately 60-minutes.

What happens following the assessment?

  • You will receive a detailed report of the assessment with clear recommendations, usually including before and after pictures
  • We will source any chairs and/or equipment recommended including suppliers and competitive quotes
  • If appropriate we may recommend a course of physiotherapy to reduce any musculoskeletal symptoms
