What is Physiotherapy and how can it help?

Physiotherapy uses science based physical approaches to help promote, maintain and restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by illness, injury, or by disability.

A physiotherapist will undertake a systematic and detailed history and examination of their patient in order to reach a diagnosis and treatment plan. In Occupational Health Physiotherapy this also takes into account work related factors such as task, posture, equipment and environment, which may be contributing to the employees symptoms or condition. Once a diagnosis has been reached and discussed with the patient, a treatment plan will be made and agreed.

In some instances this simply requires advice, or advice and exercises, or the employee may require a course of treatment. The emphasis is usually on self-management as much as possible, and promotion of general good health and well being.

In Occupational Health, information is provided to management regarding modification of work tasks or advice on return to work, where appropriate. This approach, particuarly with early intervention empowers the employee to manage and control their condition and assist them to remain at work, or facilitate an early return to work.

On-site Physiotherapy

Occupational Health Physiotherapy is particularly effective and also cost effective when provided on-site at the employees place of work.

The benefits are of early intervention, reduced time lost from work travelling to a physiotherapy appointment, the physiotherapist gains a greater understanding of the employees work tasks and environment, enhanced working relationships and communication between the physiotherapist, the Occuaptional Health Advisor and management, including Health and Safety and Human Resources departments.

In addition, on-site workplace assessments can be easily arranged.

Off-site Physiotherapy

Duradiamond Healthcare has a network of approved physiotherapy practices which provide off-site physiotherapy to our customers.

The benefit of off-site physiotherapy is that employees can still take advantage of early intervention compared to NHS waiting times.

By using an approved network of physiotherapists the employer and emloyee can be sure that the practitioner meets the necessary standards and the employer does not need to be involved in making appointments or invoicing procedures. Your organisation can arrange either ad-hoc appointments or a regular clinic (a half day clinic is the minimum).
